When in theater, she sounded amazing, all were mesemrised...but yet again, I was there on 2 June 2011, so although the same production, it was a different performance... Perhaps it was somewhat better than here, but this singing is still marvelous...
@AnatoleBelge Well, that was an impressive run on sentence LONG AFTER THE FACT. What are YOUR criteria for good singing? Ability to sustain long lines, absence of audible vibrato, a well knit scale from bottom to top, correct diction, etc., apparently are not yours. But anyway you talk like a true believer and not even well informed for an amateur.
@zamyrabyrd And it seems there are egomaniacs like you around who pretend to have authority over others, going around throwing accusations of unprofessionalism on singers based on lies and lack of knowledge without offering any 'constructiveness' whatsoever in their 'criticism' until LONG AFTER THE FACT as if the pretense of balancing one's skewed view of singers one doesn't like retroactively after attempting to smear them would fool anyone with half a mind worth talking about. Get a grip.
@blauauge2 Thanks. It looks like with some singers there is a "true believers club" who don't want to hear anything negative about their idols, even if accompanied by equally sincere praise about their talents and accomplishments. Kasarova has a special timbre and an expressive acting style. She was excellent as Octavian in Rosenkavalier for instance. It just hurts to see good singers misused by producers in lousy productions and forced to sing when the voice is not in a healthy state.
It is a pity that such a voice with all its possibilities for dramatic color and expression is being used in the poor state it is in. Continuing to sing with a shaky vibrato and inability to sustain long lines in a legato only compounds the problem. A vocal rest should be considered and a good coach to reconstruct the technique. The sound should float over the music, not desperately tread water. There are many good examples of how this aria should be done. This is not it.
