It's yodeling, Jim, but not as we know it. I don't know of anyone else who's really played with it much. I'm sure Bobby McFerrin could if he wanted to! And yes, it's all real. (unlike those video responses, which use autotune... haha!) Check out more of my stuff (including my laryngoscopy!) on my channel (malwebb1), http://malwebb.com and/or http://myspace.com/malwebb1 . Oh, and apologies for the dodgy talking moments... I was determined to do it in one shot and it was hot that day. And thanks to Deta and Rob for the use of their lovely Berlin apartment.

p.s. a woman called Bonnie has done a fine video on Sideways Yodeling in response to mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYwCqDHubxQ . It's great to hear a woman doing it and as she's just starting out herself, it's great for beginners.

  • I'm a classical church chorister and am trying to learn to Yodel. Just beginning but one thing is holding me back. Will this change my voice or the way I sing classical music if I try to learn to yodel?

  • @xXxMusicalWondersxXx Learning to yodel helps to define your registers. Unless you're a countertenor, it's likely you're not using your falsetto at all in your church choir singing. I've found that defining and expanding my chest, falsetto and headvoice (part fold) registers has greatly helped me to achieve a smooth passagio (transition from chest to head). You may feel like a dodgy voice breaking teenager to start with, but it's well worth it! Thine a warbling, Mal

  • @Ullstrumpf OK, I shall "suite" myself, so long as that means making myself comfortable on the lounge...mmm...

  • @Ullstrumpf Hmmm, I kinda need my hands and fingers now! But really, none of the stuff in this video is at all bad for your voice... I promise!
