@xoxeniaxox i think he's equalizing the pressure by performing the valsalva maneuver.
you need to do that so your ears won't hurt because of the increased water pressure.

@xoxeniaxox Many people cannot BTV. That is a hands free technique that requires the ability to open your eustachian tubes by muscular control. Many people cannot ever "learn how".

@xoxeniaxox This is an old video,i did not make it ,but the form of the duckdive shown on this vid is good ,and the equalisation technique (frenzel) is the correct one ,at least for the 80% of divers who can't physically master btv , handfree equalisation.
But indeed,the armstroke shown in this video is far from perfect ,William trubridge videos on youtube will show you the proper armstroke technique if you are interested.
