@TheNexus This is correct. He isn't running before walking. He's learning through proprioception in part, and as Nex said, our bones and our teeth grow based on stress/stimuli. The PT's are establishing controlled stress environments so the bone will "re-heal" in a strong state. This is excellent. Some PT's don't consider tactile importance. This is excellent.
This physical therapy technique is used to re-fortify the bones. Bones rebuild from impact damage (like when we walk and run). When a patient is in a coma or another condition where he doesn't move much, the bones become weaker. By exposing the bones to this kind of impact damage, and then letting it heal, it makes the process of walking much easier as it just becomes a question of relearning to walking and building up enough muscle to do it.
