These guys are the ninjas of coconut care-taking. They use a spikeless method of climbing that doesn't puncture the trunk. The commonly used spiked boots are what leave the ugly holes in the palms, leaving them open to fungus, disease, and finally crown rot - a problem that is killing many trees. Not only is spikeless a healthier method, but it's faster and safer too - check them repelling down the palms, and you'll even see them repelling from one tree to another - saving a whole extra climb.

@joshuarugg hey, awesome! I'm glad this video is bringing up even further safety measures in the climbing business; I will forward your comment on to the Pure Life guys. And yes, anyone who knows cocos knows that most of them have been spiked, and that's why I feel good promoting companies that go out of their way to avoid spikes. I've seen spiked trees that just look mangled, and I know properties that have exclusively unspiked trees, no "inoculation", really healthy, no crown rot problems,

@joshuarugg aloha! the coconut "tree" (not a tree, but part of the grass family) doesn't have the bark that a tree has, so your spikes actually leave permanent holes, opening the plant up to disease and rot - the holes never heal. I assure you the coconut is not having fun w your spikes. As for faster... did you not see them repelling from one tree to the other? For ultimate fun and speed, try barefoot free-climbing up into the crown - careful! ;)
