On Sept. 28, 2011 a young woman by the name of Maple Batalia received fatal gunshot wounds after she left to go to her car when done studying for the evening.

Maple was a honor student at Simon Fraser University in Surrey, B.C., Canada & was inspiring to go further into the field of medicine. Unfortunately, Miss Batalia did not survive her injuries but her needless death has reminded all of us for the urgent need to build in stronger community programs, so that young people at risk to experience domestic violence whether related to guns directly or not, can be implimented to better provide a quality of living and social direction which builds on individual success for the benefit of a collective society.

All SFU students are standing with Maple on principle of freedom & social justice to where, women are equal to choose & make thier own destiny to succeed just as men have the same choice.

  • Over 1 & half million children homeless

Filipino children driven to the streets by crushing poverty

  • I think it's foolish to jump to irrational conclusions without even having all the facts first. We dont know who killed her and we dont know why, Lets just wait for the police to do their job and we can address these problems after finding out why she was killed. Domestic violence is present in the South Asian community just like it is in any other ethinic group, its a sad reality but I dont know why we need to have this discussion when we dont even know who killed her.

  • @imnotdiddy Ask yourself who benefits by having Maple in a perpetual state of beauty via an early death? Ask yourself how a little sullen girl magically morphes into a diva long before young girls joined social networking sites?

What do you expect the police to do?

  • @imnotdiddy Finally, I looked after a little girl for 3 & half yrs while her community cared not for her. I even went to the Punjabi temple asking for help but because she was Tamil I was ignored 7 told to go away.

So, I know a sullen child when I see one.

  • @fijianflygirl It's a social problem that extends into all races & economics, but we just happen to see more domestic murder within the South Asian community in relation to the high numbers of immigrants from India. India is a big country with 20 million homeless children while most of everyone here in BC including people from Fiji don't care.

  • @FezHussain Maybe you should state the facts yourself if you know them, & stop being so elusive as to what facts you are refering to.

Do you have any SOLUTIONS regarding the matter of stopping violence being perpetrated against women within the South Asian community, or that 20 million children in India have basically been abandoned by those /us who live in the Western world in favor of accumulating personal wealth for self?

    Do you own a hummer?

  • @imnotdiddy Side note: This all happened around the time when that man who paralyzed from the neck down & who was in Canada illegally was fundraising for money to stay. The temple protected him & even house him too, & had little girls drop money into his lap, but no help for the child I came with.

  • @imnotdiddy I haven't jumped to no conclusion, & fact there is an underlining problem regarding a traditional form of "domestic violence" within the culture of people immigrating into Canada from India. It is a fact, that the ethnic group Punjabi is a predominate group in & around this area & with that comes their emotional bagage.

People who suffer at the hands of domestic violence normally know their assailant, as so do people/women who get raped or molested.

You can do a video response.

  • @NuNationsUnity what im saying is that you are jumping into conclusions without knowing all the facts. Do we even know whether it was a man or a woman who shot Maple?...No. We dont know the motive and we dont even know if she knew her murderer or if he ( or she) was a random creep praying on young women. Hold on to your judgments until you have all the facts.

  • @imnotdiddy Another thing, for all the videos I've watched, & who & why people make them I think we need more in the line like I make. I don't splice & dice the info into "cute catch phrases" to keep the viewers attention distracted away from the topic. Plus, I offer a solution in the form of a Foundation that represents something for the community, & for the nation.

Plenty of bandwagons to jump on, but only it depends on which 1 you want.

  • @imnotdiddy I don't remember having a discussion with you about anything, but as for who killed Maple or why that is still up for public debate. Personally, police are only capable of so much & it would be prudent for the South Asian (or as some would say, the Punjabi) community to step forward to help end domestic violence and/or street violence that affects young lives.

It's called being a part of the solution, not the problem.

  • @DrSatan187 Of course, the last statement wasn't directed to you personally but I'd like to see the people who thumbs down this video step up to the plate & do 1 themselves. Let them try & talk about cultural traditions & attitudes that adversely affect the health & welfare of minority women, & women since childhood who have been conditioned to be submissive even in abusive relationships.

To not talk about it only breeds the problem under a fantasy that isn't real.
