Hey everyone, happy new year! I've got some new footage of a recent demo.
We would really appreciate your comments, and please share this link with those who you feel may be interested!

There's again a lot of under-the-hood optimizations on the engine, making the game run faster but also making it easier to develop content later on and making the game more compatible on different screen sizes and computers.

This time however there's also significant aesthetic changes! Firstly we have implemented a new HUD which looks much better than the old one, and re-did weapon selections as well. We've introduced planets and simple orbits and implemented smooth zooming. In addition there's a number of improved special effects and a very interesting background space-scene featuring a galaxy with nebula and parallax-scrolling star overlays!

  • You should see about centering those background stars, they kinda shrink up into the top left corner when you zoom out.

  • Hey Welin, thanks for your comment. They're actually seamlessly tiling backgrounds and they don't shrink or scale at all (to keep the impression of a vast space, as if you're zooming in on the objects instead of a video feed.)

However, they're moving place if I zoom which I still have to fix. This probably gives the impression of shrinking. It could also be an old video though, as I've made some changes to the backgrounds in the past two months or so.

Thanks! Uploading a video on mining soon.

  • @SubspaceGaming

So you have two backgrounds, one that is fixed relative to the player object and another than moves?

  • @TemplarX2 Hey Templar, feel free to PM me with any game-dev questions you have. Part of the sprites I made myself, and a big part were some amazing work by a friend of mine Tomas. Sadly he hasn't gotten the time lately to work on graphics at all.

I would suggest you work with placeholder graphics first and either commission/outsource some graphics work, or approach an artist with your game concept and see if he's interested in doing it for free.

  • @TemplarX2 About the backgrounds, none are fixed. There's one in the back as you can see, but it moves veeeeery slowly. Then there's two star backgrounds with different speeds and scaling, and then there's a cloud/nebula background. So there's actually 4. If you watch closely you'll see!

  • So how long has the game been in development now? Must be more than half a decade right? :P

  • I smiled but, come to think of it, yes, more than half a decade haha!

  • It's sad that we'll never be able to play this :(

  • 5 stars!

  • @SubspaceGaming Thanks for the answer. The movements and backgrounds here feel very realistic. I like your approach. I'm doing a space game too, but vastly different concept.

  • @SubspaceGaming Hey did you work on the sprites yourself? I'm working on a space game myself but totally different concept. The coding is going find but I'm no artist; I was wondering if you can point me in the right direction for this kind of background and graphics. The explosions are fantastic; where did you get your resources?

  • its called armada lol looks like this

  • Looking awesome! =)
