great to see him behind the scenes!, he is a great photographer and uses a very nice lighting setup. As I can see: two strip lights each side, one strobe bottom and one on the top, two for the bg and a huge large format camera. Very similar to Jill Greenberg

@ImReallyAGeek Very little is Photoshop. I'm assuming he is a purist and gets it all in the camera. He values skin imperfections, pores and all that good stuff way too much to be hitting things with fake retouches in post production. I'm sure color grades are applied to make things pop more, but that's all.
The reflections in the eyes are from the two, large, Kino-Flo lights you see in the video on either side of the subject. They also give great volume to the faces...quite expensive lights.

No, Martin does not rely on Photoshop...his mindset is to "get it right in the camera" which is a very smart mentality in todays production/time minded necessity. Sure, like all photogs today, he uses photoshop, but only as a finishing tool, not a crutch.

@CropDusterMan the light reflection in his subjects eyes during close-ups, are those real or photoshop?

martin schoeller is a major role model for me. it's amazing to watch him interact with his subjects here, to see his humility and love for people.

What are that woman's injuries?
After Martin says "But not from Bodybuilding?"

Whn I worked with martin, he was like a machine gun with that Sinar 8x10! He'd shoot 20 holders faster than a cat can lick its ass! I'd spend half the shoots in the dark tent reloading...5 years later and i'd bet i could still keep up with you with the holders martin! ;o) Those were great memories.
I used to work with Martin as his assistant when that bodybuilder project began....he is not only a great photographer....he's a wonderful person! He has a great vision and atitude that guides him in his work! Most photogs are real pricks...self absorbed assholes...but not this guy...he's genuine and honest and very generous.

I could tell that about him instantly. He was very gracious to let me videotape him at work.
