Makaira by the Sea, Taveuni, Fiji Islands

Makaira Resort, also known as Makaira by the Sea, is a small, 2 bure resort located just minutes from Taveuni's Airport (Matei). The resort sits atop a small cliff which affords each bure a grand view of Somosomo Strait (the body of water that separates Taveuni Island from Vanua Levu Island). Somosomo Strait is the home of the great Rainbow Reef - a reef system that is famous the world over for stunning soft corals. Just to the north of Taveuni Island are a series of pinnacles that are fantastic for deep sea fishing. Makaira Resort offers fishing charters as well as fishing kayaks to their guests.
