By tapping and releasing the button the game counts it as two inputs. Piano method.

I've played both the Dreamcast and Xbox versions thoroughly (the PS2 version wasn't released in Europe), and the Dreamcast version just flat out doesn't feel right, not to mention those God awful arranged tracks it forces you to listen to.

@MrColdroom If you watch carefully in the slow-mo, he double tapped the light punch with his middle and index finger. This is nothing to do with negative edge.
