work in progress Mega lo Mania editor for the Amiga.

This demo shows the progress i've made on my MLM editor, showing the God Editor in action, the Map editor, the Game Options editor and the game being run with some edits on it.

GOD EDITOR:

Once again, shown are the many functions / tools which can be used to manipulate the God graphics, by the usage of a few IFF files and a template. This includes writing of text to graphical style and exporting of the eyes/mouth to make it easier to draw over. Also there is editing of names in the 'mlm' binary, and tools to edit the God descriptions, and to view templates / select screen etc. Now shown is the basic load / save function for importing/exporting to different IFF files.

The sound-editor remains a work-in-progress and unshown.

Examples shown are using additional Gods template created by Osiris37.

MAP EDITOR:

It is now possible to completely change the landscapes. You care given the option of 61 tiles, each of which can be changed using the tile-editting tool. This allows you to scroll through every shape/colour combination and replace any of the original 61 tiles. The editor will then patch the game binary to compensate for the changes of coastlines using your selected tile.

It is also possible to change the overall land colour (as it is shown in-game) and the number of opponents.

Lastly, you can now change the 'icon' used for the level. this is the little graphical version of the island, shown out at sea. Once again, i must thank Osiris37 for creating the 'default' icon pack, which has all of the original island shapes, in all colour combinations. It is, once again, possible to import more of these using a basic IFF file & template.

GAME OPTIONS EDITOR:

I have allowed for patching of the number of men given to you at the start of the game, and the number awarded for successful completion of an epoch. I hope this will encourage more varied edits of the game.

There is also the option to patch the game to be "de-sexed" ... this means where island victories are given as "Duchess of Utopia" or "Duke of Utopia" (depending on the God you chose) , a unisexed comment would be given by the game ... in this case "Dux of Utopia". This is done to try and make the game edits as clean as possible.

Please comment and give suggestions for possible extra features. There are still a number yet to be implemented, although the list is getting smaller.

  • If you have any plans for the Mega Drive version, can you send me a message? I've had some plans to modify the Mega Drive version (specifically, regarding the voice samples and decompressing the graphics), and was wondering if you've done any research into it.

Send me by a message if you're interested. :3c

    hi there,

no plans to work on the MD version i'm afraid - firstly, i've never owned a megadrive in my life, and secondly, I am not familiar with it's file-structures or data formats.

Reverse engineering the Amiga version was made much easier for me by the game's use of standard amiga file format (ILBM) for it's graphics, and my previous experience editing the raw data formats of SWOS.

    good luck with your endeavours

  • @HoraceAndTheSpider Ah, dang. Oh well!

Mega Drive games are usually stored as raw binaries... which is exactly as frustrating as it sounds. Looks like it's down the road of bothering to learn 68k ASM properly for me! :p

I do have another question though, have you got proper rips of the Amiga edition's PCM samples? I attempted to extract them myself, but Goldwave hasn't exactly proven itself most reliable in handling the Amiga's formats.

One last word, the editor is a pucker design!

  • Looks like a full version I guess I must check "MLM Editor thread" that you have in description.
