Andy flying. During the SE wind, a cove next to our small power plant is smoother than the open water. Today, winds have been gusting to 25 mph and there is still some motion to the water approaching sunset. The wind appears to be 130V150/10G15 at this location. I set up the descent with 4,000 rpm and 65 mph. After landing, it's a climbout to the right for a quick trip back around to the same cove. This time, I maintain speeds in the high seventies and slightly higher rpm; at about 4,500 the engine rumbles, evidenced by the fuzzy image. This roundout is more abrupt, and touchdown is a mph or two faster than normal, and we skip a few inches. Rather than pad the subsequent touchdown with a touch of power, I leave the engine at idle and raise the nose half a degree. Sure enough, it settles right in for a nice second touchdown, given the harsh lake surface.
Thanks, TN
It was a gorgeous evening, but the surface had some residual chop after winds earlier in the day.
It's an interesting challenge, staying proficient in all types of water.
