It would have been rather funny if the engine suddenly took off at full power and fly straight through house's windows! I long for a Jetcat SPT5! The nitro and petrol engines, esp. the nitros (piston engines) really became and are now "pissed on" engines. They puke and shower oil all over the plane. It's ancient tech! It's the turbines now!! BTW. How thirsty is that engine?

ich finds col ja

Wouldve been hilarious if he didnt have his foot on the stand and the whole tipped over and exploded at full power!!

@jasonstitus I have seen the rotors start turning before ignition takes place , it realy depends on the aplication and how tight N2 is and the number of N2 stages.. In tandem engine helicopters you'l notice some where on the dash usualy engine tachs a % rateing for each engine and the tachs are in % not RPM ,theres seperate controls to set each engine to it's % rateing and one to bring both up to get desired rotor RPM, then your takeoff ready ..

@kamphwagon1 Okay.

@Pantbera That clutch your talking about is generaly nothing but a one way sprag to ficilitate auto rortation in case of a engine failure.. A lot of the noise you here in a helicopter is the gear reduction and yes the reason for difference in the turbine speed up and rotors is a turbine has nearly zero torque to get things moveing but once in motion the shaft horsepower takes over ,turbo shaft engines are rated at shaft horsepower btw

Prop stopped very suddenly....kinda worries me

@jetpower06 Well I shan't judge or argue with someone with something they've held in their hands which I have not even seen openly in front of me or who knows more than me. I'm not a know it all.

@Pantbera on bigger applications you have bigger masses that have to be moved. I held an SPT5 in my hands, we also fired it up on a test bench and it really spun up freely, the prop just starting to move after kero-ignition. Please, I dont wan't to place any criticism, just to point out that you may have a problem. JetCat itself changed the gearbox 2 times with updates, now they are safe I think. Show this Video to Roman Kulossek (JetCat) and ask if it turns normal or not. Greetings, JP
I dont know how much I would want my hand that close to that thing..........oh shit did anyone see where my fingers went?

@furburger27 when you've turned your fingers numb a few dozen times from hand starting glow engines, i guess you gain the experience of paying attention to exactly where that prop is. i know i have. long ago, i even duck taped steel guards on to the fingers of glove i used, just in case.

jet engines use a spark plug that fires repeatedly until the gas ignites. click click click, boom.
