@zemlamusic, I'm not even sure we're that far apart. I'll send you a link to a short essay I wrote a few days ago at thinkfinity (a social networking site for teachers) that explains what I think we need to do to address these issues. Perhaps its not that different from what you consider necessary.

Can't they just limit how many babies people can make? People making 5-20 babies are not helping the over population problem. If 2 people get together and have 1-2 babies, the population won't go out of control.
