technically Joe Satriani stole from Cat Stevens
-
I mean, there are similar chord progressions in all music. I mean, you probably can't count how many blues bands have used the same exact G blues chord progression at least in one of their songs. Its just what ends up happening all the time in music

@Bigthingreg I hear classical stuff in popular music everywhere these days, and people think I'm crazy. These people also often tend to be the first to shout "THIEF!" and the last to shout the answer to any remedial music theory.

Liking the Satriani!!!

wow foreigner suite and viva la vida have really similar music, but their voices are really different
-
Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam is KICKASS!

I hope that sounded cooler in your head than it does to read. It's pretty irrefutable that Coldplay's version sounds like Satriani's. I can understand if you can't pick up the similarities in the other two, but Satriani and Coldplay both have similar chord progressions to Steven's suite.
Better luck with your attempts at wit and humor in the future, love, and remember: comedy's not for everyone.

It is was weird - I always liked that Coldplay song...but I kept getting the familiar feeling that I had heard it before a bunch of places my whole life. Oh and don't forget about: Alizee - "J'en Ai Marre" The similarities are uncanny there as well...

Hold on, hold on. I'm a prehistoric caveman, and I clearly remember bashing together some rocks in a somewhat similar melody. Tut tut... yes, yes I am stroking my beard as I type this.

I would never have heard of Joe Satriani if this similarity hadn't been pointed out- and I am really, really grateful that people did! His "version" of this chord progression is just awesome!
Some years ago I myself wrote a song and in less than two hours, I discovered that I'd ripped off a song I wrote ten years earlier. So I had to sue myself. I/We settled out of court.
