I'v read quite a lot on peak oil, FYL. However, these people take it to the logical extreme. World oil production fell 15% in the 1970s, there was no die-off, it was rough but we survived. I understand there will be no more oil gluts to reverse the trend, but society is changing and renewables are being deployed at record levels. With agricultural research showing that there are non industrial ways to produce the required amounts of food, (read Lester Brown's Plan B 4.0).

The future is bright? We are going to lose the ability to sustain 7 billion humans, no amount of drumming and thinking pretty thoughts won't ease the pain of a empty stomach or a burning thirst.

All you will be thinking of then is surviving in a very harsh environment.

Nature will indeed impose what has to happen for us to become sustainable, far fewer humans. We will lose so much of our technology and we will miss it- a lot.

The future is very bright in fact. We are going to loose the negative elements of industrial society - mass agriculture, pollution and homogenised urban cities, but build new technologies and develop terraculture - a more ecologically sound way of producing food. Plus we will probably have nuclear fusion within 50 years - there will be no energy crisis. Nature holds the answer to all of the 'issues' faced today, and we will find them. Stop worrying.

Look around people, is this the world your grand parents grew up in? I don't think so. For your sake I hope you will listen to what she has to say, and take it to heart.
