A cosplayer know as Dieh Flyboi from Chicago is arrested for attempted murder, assault + battery and holding his ex girlfriend captive. The victim, who also an otaku/cosplayer had began dating him and moved in with him shortly after meeting him on facebook this past May. *This did not happen in Atlanta but AWA 2011 was on his list of cons to attend this year.*

These are the the thoughts and reflections from FanService Renji.

*Im not a reporter nor am I trying to be. I just happened to know both parties involved and am sharing my thoughts about the subject.

*This video is in no way intended to bash or generalize otakus, cosplayers, anime fans or what ever our community labels ourselves. The word of otaku was simply used because it would get the attention needed to raise awareness. If this was titled "man arrested for attempted murder in chicago" Then most of you wouldn't have thought twice about watching this video. Its just a wake up call that crime happens everywhere even with in this generally happy community.*

  • I talked to him all the time on the phone, sometimes till 6am because i was upset over a situation. I even know people who met him but don't believe that's him all they keep saying is "oh yeah that guy looks like dieh." he had called me at 5 am a week before his arrest and even saw her on web cam with him back in July... its so frightening, we were friends a year before this happened I never knew he was like this.

  • @Nyarharhar I think everyone who personally knew him was shocked. I too had contact with him earlier in the summer and even went to his house once. It was even a reality check for me to be more careful with the new people who come into life. I usually keep a tight circle and this one some how slipped through the cracks.

  • I had contact with him over facebook too... and almost went to the Con with him... :// Id like to thank you for posting this ...Im a cosplayer too.

  • @GlambertGirl2010 You're welcome. I was also supposed to go to a con with him over the summer but I ended up losing contact with him before the con came around.

  • Renji, I am the mother of a cosplayer and I tell her when she does her cosplay events do not immediatly trust the other people. Paranoid I know, but better safe than sorry. Her father and I go with her to every event. (She does an awesome Grell.) You asked the question, how could she stay? Its a question many women in abuse situations ask. The victims become so emotionally beat down, that they can't. And usually the abuser has some sort of hold on them as well. Read up on it online.

  • @DarkSafire I understand what you are saying about the victim being emotionally beat down. People who aren't in the abusive relationship always make leaving seem so easy. In no way was I saying that it was easy for her to build up the courage and finally leave. I was just simply asking "why would she stay" for the sake of narration to state one of the reasons why she would stay. Thank you for sharing your story.

  • Just because a person is interested in anime, manga, and cosplay... doesn't generally mean they're an Otaku.

  • @Oblivionflower I believe that him holding her hostage in that way for that amount of time is LEGALLY defined as "kidnapping," even if that isn't necessarily our connotation of the word.

Anywho. Yes, it's really scary. I remember at Otakon, my cousin chatted amicably with some guy while waiting in line, and a few hours later at the rave he got VERY inappropriate with her. :/ People's demeanor can TOTALLY CHANGE given the right setting, and you can't always trust your instincts.

  • @Nyarharhar or are you just say you know him? i hope you tell truth and not lie cuz i trully, know him and it hurt me whwn i found out

  • That's terrible to hear :c otakus should not harm one another. And very good video made me cry and informed me 3 thank you

  • Wdf O.O

  • This video is really good. The event is sad to hear about. I didn't hear much about this and I'm glad u did something like this cuz this brings awareness to people who go to cons. So I just wanted to say thank you for uploading something like this for people to see outside of Chicago.

  • Dieh... why ? How ?

What about your life outside of "this?"

    What about Yoshi ? </3

  • Oh wow, I can't believe that guy, what a horrible person; well, thank you for sharing this, I will try to make sure me and my friends are safe about people at cons

  • @willsdream

people who say it is are retarded.....because him beating her and making her cut herself is totally her fault am'irite?

abusive relationships aren't the fault of the person getting hurt

  • wait though, you say she decided to stay with him, didn't he kidnap her???
