@Intawebin Not yet, apparently. The line in the video has been electrified since the late 1930s. Electrification was extended north to Waikanae relatively recently, and local services were similarly extended in February 2011.
One memory from my younger days is of seeing a steam train at Ellerslie station, circa 1964. I also traveled on a passenger train hauled by an electric locomotive between Heathcote & Lyttleton (Christchurch) in 1967. Christchurch lost their electric trains in 1970
