To be fair, ASDA is the UK's Wal-Mart. You can tell on account of how they actually are a subsidiary of Wal-Mart. And use the Wal-Mart logo. And some of the stores have 10 foot high signs that say "ASDA Wal-Mart" on them. ... okay, it's a fair comparison; Tesco has a similar level of dominance and the lions share of public derision. Tesco is #1 in the UK, ASDA is #2. ASDA stores are a lot more like Wal-Mart stores whereas Tesco stores (some branded "Tesco Metro") are usually smaller.

Yeah but these guys mean it in terms of size I think - Tesco is a hell of a lot bigger and generates more profit than ASDA. Although ASDA is owned by Wal-Mart, it's not as big in it's UK operations.
Everyone knows Tesco is popping up every 5 seconds and existing ones being made even bigger. Wal-Mart does the same thing in their country, which is why I guess they see it as "Britain's Wal-Mart". Liverpool has 8 or 9 conv. stores within a mile of one another, and they're planning on building more!

Sure is. Even says so on it's signs.
"Britain's Wal-Mart" - I'm sure Asda is Britain's Wal-Mart?

Sir Terry Leahy (Tesco's CEO) is also on the board of Directors of Liverpool Vision, which is responsible for overseeing planning and development in Liverpool and is the mastermind behind the overarching Strategic Regeneration Framework. Its not suprising then that in 1 year (July 08-09) Tesco has managed to open an average of 1 city centre branch every 2 months, aggresively forcing competitors out and creating a lucrative monoculture at the expense of sustainability, diversity and independence.
