Failed to mention glazeing on the flat or v side. If the rubber is not flat black its time to replace it as the backside is used for the water pump. if it has a shiney or glazed appearence it is time to replace it. (normaly it will glaze long befor cracking becomes apperent, unless its under very conditions).
