@MUTANTDAMN3000 Actually for military development they are researching a product called zoombang. In studies it has proven capable of absorbing 80% of impact forces in a thinner layer than any other conventional padding. It is a visco elastic polymer. Meaning that at rest it is soft and pliable like a liquid but on impact it changes state into a solid to resist impact. It is lighter than impact get and has similar and possibly better impact absorbing qualities. It is used in football gear.

the impact gel as has a small compartment, the heel part is deeper into the gel

@TheOrIsItSomethingWo a good idea yes but better, i don't think so. what would you rather have. a bunch of football players being able to move faster or a bunch of every day police/ army ect. not dieing from the impact from a bullet hitting their bullet proof vest? (people have and can die from just the impact of the shot onto their bullet proof vests even knowing the bullet did not penetrate the armour)

I think it was the extra foam from the bottom impactgel that did most of the absorbing... I mean, the generic gels were so thin you can't expect any protection from a hammer. a better test would be 1 inch thick generic gel vs 1 inch thick impactgel, though the results we can only speculate.

unlike those movies, if you ever wear a bullet proof vest and get shot, it repels the shot, but you basically get hit with a sledgehammer, so you fall down, and burst your organs sometimes, breaking ribs, maybe they should put impact gel a little, to absorb the shock
