My opinion on marriage. Is there really a separation between church and state in America? Why can't gay people get "married"?

I like how people try to legislatively forbid gay marriage on the grounds that marriage is a sacred institution... which is BULLSHIT if you can get married in Vegas with an Elvis impersonator doing the service.

The federal governments currently grants 1138 rights associated with the security of the couple. Rights to hospital visitation, inheritance, taxes breaks, joint mortgage...ect The moment the church advocated to giving benefits to married couples was the moment they gave away the rights to "define" marriage. Marriage is now a secular term.

You asked why governments should incentivise marriage. Might I suggest economics? Part of running a state of any kind is ensuring economic survival. The financial incentives to get married (similar here in the UK) are an attempt to ensure procreation, and to tie ppl into the national economy more firmly. Married ppl are more likely to buy mortagages etc, and 'fully commit' to careers and generally stabilise their lives. By promoting marriage, governments are infleuncing economic behaviour.

The majority of people who are getting married aren't even religious..it's total bullshit.

The government shouldn't have any say.. their reasoning behind everything is some sorta profit.

Marriage is man made and it was created to control women.. luckily I won't be marrying a man lol Religious marriage is completely whatever to me..For gays it's about the rights you're denied during a time of crisis with your partner that tends to matter most.

I do not think the govt should have any right to say whether or not a certain group of people could get married. Its the church that should have the say.

If the religion itself is against same sex marriage then their should be no way it could be done. Legislations should not be passed or a group of people should not change the church or its religious beliefs!

Next thing you know people are gonna try to marry animals!
