This is my original train song. Everybody who writes country music songs has to write at least one train song. I remember when I was a little boy, being facinated with the hobo life and trains. Just wanting to hop on that passing train and going where ever it was headed. I imagine my parents were just thrilled at their little boy's aspirations of becoming a hobo. Well, I never did, but I must say every time I'm near a passing train and hear that rumble of the tracks, and the whistle blow, for that moment I question my career choice and have the urge to just hop on and ride. Who knows, if the economy keeps on going to hell I might get my wish yet. Hope you enjoy this song. Wooooooooooo Woooooooooooooooo. ;-) Please Subscribe. Thanks for listening - Ricky

Lyric:

The Last American Hobo - by Songster99
__________________________________________

My home is where my head lies
Always changing as the train rolls down the track
As I view life from a boxcar
Never worry 'bout the future or the past

Not any of my kind left
still riding up and down these lonesome rails
So I'll keep on hopping freight cars
Till I called to ride home down that final trail

( Chorus )
I'm the last American Hobo
And these rails I now ride solo
From Cottonwood to Como
Anywhere this train goes I go
I've been riding now for so long
That most trains I rode are far gone
As the whistle blows it's sad song
I'll ride that final boxcar home

( Verse 2 )
Those sunsets in the desert
Painting colors that my eyes had never seen
And those snowcapped Rocky Mountains
Reaching all the way to heaven so it seemed

That Carolina moonlight
Shining brightly on the Smokies as they sleep
If I could start this whole ride over
I'd start sooner, so my heart had more to keep

( Chorus )
I'm the last American Hobo
And these rails I now ride solo
From Cottonwood to Como
Anywhere this train goes I go
I've been riding now for so long
That most trains I rode are far gone
As the whistle blows it's sad song
I'll ride that final boxcar home

As the whistle blows it's sad song
I'll ride that final boxcar home

  • Good song and good singing....

  • Thanks so much for the words. I don't intend to record your song, but I want to learn it, so I can sing it for people. I do some of the old Jimmie Rodgers songs, but always like the newer Hobo songs too. I do Liberty Justice's song Ramblin' Hobo. I have a CD of Hobo songs called Last Train Out. You can hear samples on CD Baby. I'm a railroad brat and grew up around railroad people and Hobos. The history of the real Hobo should not be forgotten. Keep writing.

  • Very nice. I love the line about, "...the moonlight shining on the Smokys while they sleep". I've been there and seen that. Good song. Keep writing.

  • Great song :)
