GUTENBERG! THE MUSICAL! now playing off-Broadway at THE ACTORS' PLAYHOUSE.

"A SMASHING SUCCESS! Who knew a musical about the inventor of the printing press could have SO MANY LAUGHS? Scott Brown and Anthony King are SUPERB COMIC WRITERS." (The New York Times)

"BRILLIANTLY REALIZED, funnier than it has any right to be." (New York Magazine)

"FLAWLESSLY CALIBRATED and SMART, a dead-on musical comedy." (The New York Sun)

"Leaves the audience HOWLING WITH LAUGHTER." (Associated Press)

"GENUINE LAUGHS, CLEVERLY EXECUTED." (The New York Post)
"A delicious comic success, HILARIOUS and IMMENSELY SATISFYING." (The Village Voice)
"A GLEEFUL AFFAIR that's LOADED WITH LAUGHS." (Daily News)

In 1450, Johann Gutenberg invented the printing press. In Nutley, NJ, Bud and Doug wrote a show about him. They don't have a cast, an orchestra, or a clue . . . but they have a lot of hats. Tonight they pitch their misbegotten musical to the producers who might take their dream to Broadway.

Starring Jeremy Shamos (The Rivals, Reckless) and David Turner (In My Life, Spamalot)
Directed by Alex Timbers (Hell House, A Very Merry . . . Scientology Pageant)
Written by Scott Brown and Anthony King

This clip features the ORIGINAL OFF-BROADWAY CAST: Christopher Fitzgerald (Bud) and Jeremy Shamos (Doug), accompanied by T.O. Sterrett.

"EXCELLENT PERFORMERS make delightful company, with a charm that's hard to resist." (The Star Ledger)

"RIOTOUSLY FUNNY." (Time Out New York)

"A SMALL TREASURE." (WBAI Radio)

"UPROARIOUS and HYSTERICALLY FUNNY, funnier than The Drowsy Chaperone and [title of show]." (Associated Press)

"THE BEST of the new breed of musical spoofs. Like The Producers meets [title of show],
and packaged as a rare, successful Saturday Night Live skit, with two of the season's most
GLIMMERING PERFORMANCES." (flavorpill.net)

"It seems that Monty Python's whole troupe has taken possession of two New York naifs, aspiring
musical-theatre writers Bud and Doug, in this INSPIRED parody of Broadway bombast." (The New Yorker)

  • Mislabeled! David Turner WAS in this show, but not this cast.

  • I can't wait for the cast recording!

  • Reminds me of Martin Luther, the Rock Opera. (If you're in Boston, look that thing up).
