UPDATE: i transferred all the fish into a 20gal. the bronze died in transition. they lasted about a year until my bird dropped a scented oil container in the tank (had it on top). the 20gal tank is in storage but with the new year (c/o '12 wut wut!) im bringing it down and re-starting it :) im just gonna try some Moors. as of now this zen tank is in my moms office with a male betta

i have gotten complaints of too many fish in this aquarium, so here is my explanation
i have only had the fish about 2 weeks, i am aware of the risks. i am doing partial water changes and i will soon be moving them.
i have a 8'x11' koi pond and i am putting all the fish seen in this video
( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hR5TwTTIG0 )
this means this tank will be empty.
i am also moving the koi and larger fantail seen in this video, leaving two behind in this tank.
i plan to leave one in the 5gal, and two in each of the other ranks. this is the proper proportion of size to water quantity.

info about this video
thanks to my great grades, i spent my money to buy this tank. 5gal with filter fountain pump and light. i bought the 3 fish as well. White one - common fantail named Angel. Pure Black one - baby black moor named Bubbles. Grayish/Gold one - bronze common fantail named Goldy-locks.
Bronze is the natural color of goldfish if in the wild, its a mix of black and gold. this is what the koi and carp were colored before they were domesticated. Most goldfish and koi are this color just after hatching, but their colors bloom shortly after for most. the ones who dont change colors are sold as feeder fish since theres no attraction.
ONE goldfish needs 20 gallons of water. ONE. Each additional goldfish past that needs +10 more gallons of water, minimum. This is with good filtration, and high water turnover. Fish might "make it through" living in a tank so small, but the damage shows later, through health problems and stunted growth. (Koi need even MORE water than that.) Keeping a goldfish in 5 gallons of water is like keeping a betta in a teacup.

@neuparadigm just wondering, i have 2 baby fantails in a 12 litre tank, both fish are around 1 inch long at the moment and are thriving. but i am wondering how big they will grow, and what sort of size shall i let them get before i have to get a bigger tank? i am limited on money so getting a really big tank is not an option.

@littlelauren971 erm you should be fine for a litle while. they can get up to 6inches BUT if their very young and small youve got some time. my advices is step them up gradually, buy a slightly bigger tank and sell the old one and keep doing that untill their size stays constant.

@neuparadigm nooooo one adult goldfish needs about 5-10gallons, with filtration and waterfall. and a betta would be fine in a tea POT.
