My dog is a Jack Russell Basenji Mix. He is my family, my pride and joy and it tears my heart out when he has a seizure, because there is nothing i can do for him and I feel helpless!

Someone told me it was common for the Jack Russell to have seizures. If this is true, can someone tell me why?

One vet told me he thought it was allergies and put my dog on a half a Benadryl. I've seen no difference with the Benadryl. I've even tried different dog food brands, but nothing has changed, he still has these type of seizures. I can't afford hundreds of dollars worth of tests to find the POSSIBLE cause.

I've watched other video's of dog owners filming their beloved pets having seizures too. We all have something in common, we want to help our beloved pet.

Episode...During a seizure (as you can see in my video) my dog's muscles tense up, then when he starts coming out of the seizure he looks disoriented and wobbles his head as if he were dizzy, and licks his jaws a lot. A few minutes after the seizure he throws up. Which might suggest that he does get dizzy. I normally pet him during a seizure to try and comfort him, however, this time I wanted to film him during a seizure and put it on Youtube for anyone out there that might have some knowledge about Seizures. It makes no difference whether I pet him or not, the seizures last 2 to 5 minutes. Please help!! I hate seeing my little guy go through this.

  • if your dog is eating dog food with pork in it...give them something without pork in it...read the bag...if it says contains meat...that may mean pork....lamb is good...so is beef..or chicken. iams is what we switched to. no seizures for almost a full year now!

  • @Stirlz138 I switched my dog to IAMS too, and chicken and rice canned food. So far no seizures..

  • Have you asked your vet about Phenobarbital?

  • @lunderscoreo What does that do? Just curious.

  • @breakofdawnmjj anti convulsive drug. Your vet would have to do some bloodwork to check liver and kidneys but I would think it's worth a try.

  • @TSSYF Thank you :)

  • That dog is very lucky to have such a caring owner. You are very loving and i hope your dog gets better.

  • I stopped feeding my dog chicken liver and gizzards. He started stinking really bad. I was told it was not good on his digestive tract which caused the horrible odor. I feed him canned dog food, along with cooked vegetables, and string cheese as treats. It's very frustrating trying to find that balance to good a healthy diet that won't have ill effects on my dog

  • Our dog has similar but his eyes are closed. He is American Bulldog and Staffordshire Terrier. Went on years, then I was unable to afford Revelution Flea Control for 3 month. Dawned on me he had not had one in 3 months. Now using PetAmour, just applied it tonight and he had one. I have allergies to preservatives. Thinking our dog has allergies to certain preservatives also. As noticed he also had one after we fed him a certain diet dog food. Fed it to him a week later and one happened again.

  • faça varios exames e veja se é uma doença!mais isso deu derrepente?

  • My dog has the exact same thing happening about once or twice a month now and she is a Jack Russell terrier. It's scary to see how familiar this is to me. Her seizures look almost identical to your dog's. I'm so sorry this is happening and I'm hoping to get answers as to why my dog is having these seizures. A neurologist is looking at a video that I uploaded of my dog.

  • @ThatDeadlyMedicine they can bite

  • I volunteer at a rescue kennel. There have been seizure dogs (various causes) and they always get phenobarbital- it keeps them from having so many. If your vet didn't suggest it, I'd get a second opinion.
