@CrowMeris Why are they not pandas? The word panda is the Nepali name of this species. Today they're called red pandas to distinguish them from the later discovered giant panda (which is actually a bear and not a real panda).

@linkbox135: They aren't foxes, and neither are they pandas. They are most closely related to racoons (but it's a pretty distant relationship).

They are called "firefoxes" simply because that is the closest we English-speakers can translate the Chinese name for these adorable rascals.
