Welcome to 2009! The first online video I upload for the year was one I had intended to also be one I put a date on, and I chose Super Smash Bros. Brawl because it's the online game I upload that I play the least frequently.

Match #1
Samus
Big Blue
I get onto SSBB for the first time after Christmas, and what do I find but a Pikachu that's all too happy to use Thunder. I tried as I could to stop Pikachu from winning, but I wasn't good enough--Captain Falcon kept falling to Pikachu and adding to Pikachu's score.

Match #2
Link
Bridge of Eldin
But things were better for me over here, now that a fourth person has been added to the mix. Well, a computer player anyway. I hear that people run into this stage a lot. It doesn't happen to me. I usually see people who just pick Final Destination. Good thing this was a "Final Destination free" room. I think I should savor this moment when there are a lot of people who haven't crystallized themselves to Final Destination.

Match #3
Captain Falcon
Spear Pillar
I didn't do too well over here for a while. Damage built up quickly, and I cipuldn't keep up--until the last few moments of the match with two successful Falcon Punches in a row. Unfortunately, I'm no good at Sudden Death, and a computer player wins the match.

  • Dang, that Pikachu is annoying. Just like Zelda players.

Seriously. It's easy to be good with Zelda. Just spam Din's Fire when they're far away, Nayru's Love when they're in close, and her Up-Smash when they come in from above, and you'll never lose another match again. Ugh.

And I almost never see Final Destination on Wi-Fi, unless it's in Spectator Mode. I guess you just attract the Final Destinationers.

And nothing makes me happier than when someone who isn't serious about the game wins.

  • And, of course, the lag means it's really hard to get away from them, not to mention how other players might not be aware of Zelda's patterns and constantly inadvertently throw you into them. Well, it happens with me all the time, at least.

Maybe it's the times I play that I get a lot of Final Destinationers. I tend not to play during the prime time hours, when there's the most traffic: The fewer people online, the more quickly I'll find opponents.

  • if only you could play dialga in brawl. that would be sweet!

  • He'd be a bit big, wouldn't he?

  • Most of them are too stupid to realize you're reflecting it. And G&W can rack up some easy kills by exploiting thunder-spamming Pikachus.

  • Pikachu players are so much more irritating online than off. Its harder to avoid thunder or DI out of their irritating D-smash. I generally pick Falco and kill them with their own lightning if they insist on spamming Thunder. At least this one wasn't one of the super irritating ones.

That SD at the end was rather funny, a split second sooner and you probably would have hit with the axe kick before Luigi chopped you. Just glad the trip didn't decide it, Falcon's trip animation takes ages.

  • I really can't tell if someone is C-Stick smashing, since I also use the Nunchuk scheme.

Lag varies from match to match, and usually within a match as well. I don't understand how people can compensate for lag.

  • Every single Zelda player I've encountered has used the C-stick for spamming smashes. I use the Wii Remote/Nunchuk control scheme, so I don't do that.

Although it is fun to trap someone in a constant barrage of Lucas's down-smash when they're slowed by a Timer. You can rack up at least 200 damage if you do it right.

  • I manage to familiarize myself with the lag in each match. That, and I air-dodge way too often. That helps me avoid the majority of Din's Fire attacks. But still, it's nearly impossible to perform the Konga Beat in online matches.

I usually play from midnight to about 3 am. I get a lot of people who like to engage in taunt parties, and when we get a single person who constantly attacks taunters, everyone manages to completely shut that person down and prevent them from getting any KOs.

  • If you get trapped in Pikachus vortex down smash, you should try tapping the control stick up as long as you are in it. You might be able to escape the knockback from the final hit.

  • I agree. Zelda and Pikachu are tied for most annoying characters to fight online next to Lucas. (IMO)

Ever noticed that lots of them abuse the C-stick for spammed smashes?
