Kiliii Yu of Seawolf Kayak/Dancing Hawk teaches a skin-on-frame kayak workshop. Participants here build seventeen foot sea kayaks, designed by Kiliii for rough coastal touring. This workshop took place just prior to the Rabbitstick Rendezvous, a primitive skills gathering in Rexburg, Idaho, and was put on by Dave Wescott. The boats built here represent three years of prototypes and testing in the waters of British Columbia.

More information can be found at www.dancinghawk.com, and seawolfkayak.com (coming soon), or you can contact kiliii (at) dancinghawk (dot) com. Kiliii travels throughout the United States teaching skin-on-frame kayak workshops, building both ocean and river kayaks.

  • I found out about Rabbitstick a couple of months ago while reading the book Primitive Technology II (edited by David Wescott) and I sure wish I could go this year! It sounds like the most exciting thing in the world. I really hope I can make it next year. :)

  • @AntipodeanAl The ribs are bent by steam. If you look up in the upper right corner you'll see the steam box.
