Here is one of the most useful shots in squash; the volley.

4 points to remember:

1. Stay squared to the side wall
2. Keep a firm wrist
3. Compact swing
4. Power comes from follow through

  • Shahir is a great ambassador for the game. He was recently in D.C. area and gave an exhibition. He is a great player and a great speaker. The crowd really enjoyed him.

  • Razik seems to counter his balance with his arm, is this recommended or just natural?

  • @katapila Yes, we're nitpicking! rotating forearm transfers the power that started in shifted body weight & stability in legs and shoulder.

Step #4 (slo-mo text) says "Power comes FROM follow-through". it does not in this clip. it originates in Shahier's legs. when he hits harder he cocks his wrist and then actually straightens it.

Power sequence is legs->spine->shoulder->upper arm->elbow->forearm->wrist (also adds control). the kinetic energy progresses up/out through the bones & joints.

  • @huntrichardson Must remember the cocked wrist. The turning action of your forearm through the shot is another big source of power. Not a bending of the wrist though, that stays relatively cocked. It's the rotation of the forearm one must remember.

  • Actually the power is generated from his planted feet, transferred body weight and the stability in his legs and shoulder. the follow-through and stable wrist provide control.

  • @lonewolf1234512345, i thought so, thanks alot mate.

    Cheers
