@proprog5000 You're right. Beat is a strong word. Westerners have their own images when they think of word "beat", but it's a different concept in Arabic. Hence the confusion on this verse. But it really is clear as you explained. Real men do not abuse their wives, especially if you're Muslim!

guys you must understand beat is a bad word to use. Beat means you continuously hit her or beated her. Islam does not teach you to beat. It teaches you that "IF" your wife didn't listen to your requirement or demand you at maximum tap her in the back! That was a fatwa I heard in Saudi TV 1. So if you do more than that it is against islam. For christians & jews & others do hit their wives islam just tells you the limit. So islam gives women more rights. To not be beaten. The bible did not!

you know quite few about Islam, i can see your actually interested in this "cult"..
so which school you actually learned about Quran ? or was it just TV ?
do you keep you kids on TV to be educated or do you actually register them in a proper school?
ps. your the barbarian for trying to attack this "cult" lol

hmmm really ..?
Some Muslim scholars claim women should be beat with feathers or toothpicks, and some say 2 by 4s. Can I decide?

They should not be "beat", one can discipline his spouse if she commits and act of indecency, as i mentioned earlier, "...in a way that causes no injury."

I am sure she will agree with me the 2 by 4 is reasonable. And if she doesn't I will probably have to beat her for being "rebellious."

What we see here is another example of how contradictory Islam really is. The Qur'an states that after talking, then shunning and refusing to sleep with your wife.....You CAN HIT your wife. There is no information regarding how you should hit your wife, none at all. Now many scholars over the years have attempted to water down this passage because it sounds barbaric (just like the rest of Islam).

It's obvious that you have a problem with the way we understand Scripture, which is through Prophetic Guidance and those who inherit from them (i.e the Scholars)
In Surah Sâd [38:44]:
"wa khudh bi yadika dhikhthaa fa adhrib bihi..."
"And take in your hand a bundle of thin grass and strike therewith (your wife)..."
The Prophet (salallâhu 'alayhi wa sallam) - in his Farewell Sermon - said:
"...fa adhribû hunna dharbân ghayra mubarrahin..."
"...Hit them in a way that causes no injury..."
