Oh, here we go again with the "biblically literate" crap. The bibleS (plural, because there are many versions) can, and are ready by millions everyday, and there are as many interpretations as there are readers. It's not like the 1300s where the one village scholar reads the bible to the entire population at storytime.
I know that kind of takes your fabulous quasi-degree down a notch...but it's reality.

Yes, it seems Thomas Jefferson also had a nasty sentiment toward gay men.
But he was nonetheless a keen and fiercely independent thinker. And, after overcoming any emotional issues he may have had of gays, I think he might have come around to a rational view once he became better informed. I base my theory on his own words.

"I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions, but laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind....(cont.)

...As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors." Thomas Jefferson

So there was room for any reasonable person to change one's mind and Laws.

I really wish it were possible to go back and bring him here today to see what kind of influence he has had on our society. He would be so amazed. He definitely believed in freedom of the individual and without his influence we wouldn't have the freedoms we all have. And look at how many democracies there are now. It would blow him away.
