  • correction- only two of the rods were good- 3 and 4 were bent. my friend got lucky and sold the head for several hundred dollars despite it needing extensive chamber/valvve work. i'm building a street motor right now for a friend with U60 block, D81 rods (about 5.88"), and Z22E pistons. the pistons and rings are cheap from nissan. in this case i'll feel good about using the Z22 crank- it will have an easy life with SSS cam (or so) and 46mm SU-type fuel sys. cheers to ya

  • oh yes i've blown up a few Z24 cranks- i think. it's hard to tell where the trouble starts with turbocharged stuff- the parts go everywhere. one crank failed (it was in two pieces) and the valve seat/ring land pieces took out the motor including the turbo and both carbs- about $7000 worth of stuff- in a Z24 block with 6" chinese rods & forged pistons. only the block and rods were salvagable. failed at the thrust face radius. i warned the guy. always had the best luck with 'full house' cranks...
