I enjoy singing this piece, I'm a tenor, but I have heard so many intreptations that interpolate a high note at the end of the solo, abominable! As an opera buff, I know what the inflection is, high notes indicate tension or a question; low notes indicate acceptance or serenity. The extended instrumental section which follows and often eliminated is an extension of that serenity. Unfortunately, I never bought the only recording of Elisabeth Grummer I saw, Tannhauser, $20.00 was too much!

The boy soprano who sings this air in the video on my channel sings it quite well, and I very much enjoy hearing it. Many female singers today do not have the timbre or focused technique to sing Baroque, and they should not. Elisabeth, however, has an attractive timbre and a solid technique. Thank you for posting.
