http://www.perecman.com As I was saying, the beginning of it was, I was a Holocaust survivors kid. And Holocaust survivors are tough. Theyre the people who made it. And my father was one very tough guy. He was also brilliant at what he did. And I learned at an early age to emulate my father, using his leadership influence. And I too wanted to be like my dad, the best at what he does. Because all his friends would tell him, Sols the best. Sols the best. And I wanted to be the best in becoming a personal injury lawyer in New York. I even learned his profession for a while.

The second personal experience and effect on my life and influences was when I was a teenager. I got sick and I spent about a year and a half, two years, in high school, in and out of wheelchairs, crutches, a lot of surgeries. That has probably driven me more than anything else. Number one, I can relate to my clients. As a personal injury lawyer in New York, I dont sympathize with my clients, I empathize. When I talk to a jury about pain, when I talk to a jury about suffering, I remember it. I remember it so vividly, you cant possibly imagine. I can actually close my eyes and picture myself laying in bed with that hook behind me, trying to bend my leg that wouldnt move. So I know, from personal experience, its effect on life and what you can and what you cant do. I know how, just having a set of crutches, can make your life miserable. Because if you carry a book bag to school, back then we didnt have backpacks, we carried little briefcases. Well how do you carry a briefcase with a crutch, with a pair of crutches? You have to learn. Which sort of brings me to the second part of what that was for me. I learned something that influenced my leadership abilities. I learned how to overcome adversity. It was more than adversity, I learned how to overcome a horrible disease and how to push past it, let it go and just be. And I was lucky, it went away.
