On the afternoon of January 21, a fisherman spotted the large fish in the shallow water near the park. He immediately contacted Awashima Marine Park officials, who caught the shark and transported it to the park's dolphin pen, where they turned it loose. The weak shark was able to survive for several hours — long enough for park officials to videotape it swimming around. Video footage of the frilled shark near the sea surface is very rare, and the park says it will keep the video for research purposes.

The frilled shark is typically found at a depth of around 600 meters (2,000 feet). Its slender body grows to about 160 cm long, and unlike most sharks, which typically have 5 sets of gills, the frilled shark has 6 sets. It is known as a "living fossil" for its resemblance to extinct, Paleozoic sharks.

Look up these two youtube videos I gave you if you wanna see more about human presence at the deepest parts of the ocean look up for the submarine The Trieste in 1960. Although you might be right about the shark being too big to be brought by us :P my bad 'bout that.

  • @coolbionicle Actually Ryfasol is right. We can send machines down there but only tiny ones with cameras or little pinchers to collect dirt or rocks from the bottom of the ocean. Notice while it's swimming by the camera its eyes are white? Thats because its at the deepest part of the ocean most likely, maby even deeper than giant squids. I highly doubt that a tiny rock collecting robot or camera robot can haul a Frilled Shark let alone find one and bring it back up here.

  • That's an oarfish

  • I hope humans die horrible deaths

  • It looks so fake when it doesn't move its mouth at all, but I'm no fish expert, so maybe its common :P

  • i'd shit bricks if i saw this one!

  • If you find animal look scary for its look, than you are missing out on friends in life. For instance this shark has the intelligent to make friends with animals that is different to it-self which is more than just food or foe to its eyes.

Check this out! I have an aquarium video on my channel that shows the marine animals from Sydney Aquarium. Sharing with others online is Gold XD, just click on my name to watch, or search the name: Best Aquarium Video on youtube (Maybenot)
