One of the best parts of my teaching here is my walk to my junior high school. The first part, leaving my neighborhood, isn't thrilling, because it's just hills, train tracks and apartment buildings. It's nice, but kind of blah.
Once I get off at the stop for my school, it's a walk that never gets old, and can even have many routes. There's hills, paths, tunnels, old houses, new housess. There's a construction company whose garage is overrun with cats. I pass the usual number of characters with interesting aesthetics or personalities. I call them Flat-top, Blockhead, Smokey, MILF, Feaux-Hawk, the newlywed, and the couple I would vote most likely to be a criminal team.
I pass farm fields, graveyards, endless drink machines, and the house where my "Japanese Sister" lives. There's a field where kids play baseball and old folks play croquet. There's a staircase that's like walking through a spider-filled jungle.
Some mornings, when it's clear, I can see Mt. Fuji from the top of the hill.
There's a few ALTs that have had to teach here, as subs I assume. They all agree that the walk there is one of the best parts of working there. I'll miss the walk, followed by all the cheerful kids when I leave.
@PaperHeartGoesBoom Very cool! That's kind of how it is, but when you go back it'll be more enriching. You'll appreciate the little things amidst the chaos next time.

Japan is awesome, my aunt lives in Fussa (close to Tokyo) and i went there for 3 weeks. Even though it was only 6 years ago, i was 7 so i dont remember too much. I remember a lot of trains, people walking, good food, and lots and lots of vending machines EVERYWHERE. This video reminds me of my visit and now i wanna go back! haha

@Angles786 Poor? why do you think it's a poor area? It's pretty average for Japan.
