Fenghuang, a small ancient town on the Tuojiang River, in Chinese means 'Phoenix', the mythical bird of good omen and longevity that is consumed by fire to be re-born again from the flames. Feng Huang Cheng or Phoenix Town is so called as legend has it that two of these mythical birds flew over it and found it to be so wonderful that they grew reluctant to leave it; and so may you, as Fenghuang offers one of those fine glimpse of Old China.

It was named so because the Qing tried to exterminate the Hmong and took their lands, but although many hundreds of thousands died in Fenghuang, they moved to Indochina and ended up in the West like me.

Beautiful video. Fenghuang means a male and a female combine together to be a legendary bird, called phoenix. Phoenix is a symbol of the Miao/Hmong people while the Han look up to the dragon.
Fenghuang also believe to be one of the ancient city formed by the Miao. There's also the southern Great Wall that was built here during the Miao Rebellion during the Ming Dynasty and were used again during the Qing.
