This must be at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, OH which is actually owned by the NHRA. Never knew what to expect at that race. Now the big time, so to speak, goes through Norwalk, OH but on the different track length. I had to remember that track lengths have recently changed so top end speeds will likely not be much of a concern as cars get reengineered for that. Yet The Sarge is still at it with a very recent run of 327.90 at Concord, NC. But what else considering the support he gets.

Most tracks can handle 1/4 mile races. The 1,000 foot change was a knee jerk reaction to Scott Kalitta's death. Truth be told, Old Bridge Raceway should have never held top fuel/funny car races b/c it is woefully short, and has a WALL that ends the sand trap. I live in Indy and IRP....er...Lucas Oil Raceway has plenty of shutdown room and a nice long sand trap with no WALL at the end of the track. Same goes for most NHRA tracks. Bring back the 1/4 mile!

If you ask me that's a waste of time because they still manage to go 325 MPH in that distance and will always find ways to go faster. It is the tracks that need to be upgraded to cater for the cars and make racing safer.
As to why the old records don't stand, well I'm not sure, probably because they don't race 1/4 mile anymore.

@sirlonghair hrmm.. we always used BAE heads or AJPE when i built fuel engines 2005 - 2007. when i built for IHRA pro stock you could use the chevy hemi heads. but then again that isnt really a chevy since the bore spacing is usualy 5.0 - 5.3" for those heads. those were usually 700"-833" engines not the typical 4.185-4.200 you would see in a top fuel engine. If rules allowed Top Fuel could be pushing 10 - 12,000 hp with only a few changes.

@1901974 haven't you heard of sonnys hemi heads yes a chevy block can be used it's not a pure dodge hemi and yes it's not a stock block but you could build a nitro BB for regular gas if you drop the 60 pound blower the v angle IS Chevy design the main bearings are a dodge design and the heads are after market sonnys it takes all of American knowledge to make 8000Hp.so your the idiot
l shot this video, l've been interested in drag racing for 45 yrs.
One top fuel dragster 500 cubic inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower than the first 8 rows of F1 cars at any race.
A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to drive the dragster's supercharger.
In order to exceed 300 mph in 4.5 seconds, dragsters must accelerate an average of over 4G's.
