This is the Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep (PSP) remix of the classic "Fragments of Sorrow". The original piece was by Yoko Shimomura. Kingdom Hearts is copyright of SquareEnix.
This plays during the true final boss battle.

I mentioned to someone that I'd try out one of Yoko Shimomura's pieces (I hadn't done one by her yet), since they have a lot of layers and depth to them that make them hard to translate to MPC; I love this remix of the Fragments of Sorrow theme, so I gave it a shot!
This was done by ear with Mario Paint Composer v1.0, listening to (cough) a Youtube posting of a soundrip. This piece was difficult to keep under the 5-note limit (and I prefer to avoid those crazy speeds unless the rhythm dictates it); I hope I was able to capture some of the original's feeling.
This was really one of the harder pieces I've done; I've got a lot of newfound respect for Yoko Shimomura. =P

Let me know what you think!

  • It's actually called "dismiss," or something like that, but great jobs!

  • @jr91096 That comment... just.... lol...

  • HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO MAKE THIS!? IT'S SO ACCURATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • oh my god this is...AMAZING!!!

  • @NorseFTX And yes, because I start the percussion a quarter note early, the percussion (at least the snare drum portion) is ahead by one quarter note. (That's if we take this piece in 4/4, with each car at the beginning representing one quarter note)

  • @jayjaycorleone ...

    ......

    .....Ah...

...Aah!! You're right! You're absolutely right! I'm putting an extra roll of the drum after the 2nd beat, when the original only has the drum in the offbeat after the 3rd of each measure! Ah..hah hah...hmm....

Maybe we can just call this a remix instead? =P

Very nice catch. I guess I was just a little too enthusiastic with my percussion in this piece.

  • @NorseFTX no it's the snare drums that are wrong .

  • @jayjaycorleone If it helps, the boats represent the snare drums (I did embellish a little bit at the beginning), while the mushrooms represent the bass drums. The bass is a lot louder in the original, but is almost barely there in this version (mainly because I can't get the mushrooms to go as low or to echo the way it does in the original)--was that what was missing? I did listen about 10 times just now back and forth from the original and this, and at the core, they...should match. I think.

  • @NorseFTX but it doesn't match . if you compare your version to the original , you'll see

  • @NorseFTX Oh, right, and the fact that there are 5 notes per line; sometimes I had to just leave out the percussion to fit all the harmony that was going on in this piece. This piece has so much going on =P
