Burmese Salads: Athohk sohn

A salad is not just a salad in Burma. Forget lettuce leaves with a drizzle of oil - like salads in Thailand and Laos, Burmese salads (known as a-thohk) can be hot or cold, leafy or not, mild or spicy, a dainty side dish or a whacking great meal of its own!

This shop in Mandalay serves some particular favourities including rice salad (tamin thohk) , all-sorts salad (let thohk sohn), potato salad (aloo thohk), kaffir lime salad (shaok-thee thohk) and, best of all, la-hpet thohk - salad made of pickled green tea!
