In 1975, Aligarh Muslim Alumni Association was founded by Dr. Abdullah in Washington, DC. The main purpose of the organization was to introduce Urdu Literature in the form of MUSHAIRA (poetry recitation) to the people of Washington DC area. For the first few years only the local Urdu poets used to gather in the AliGarh annual Mushaira but it was 1983 when the famous Urdu poet Ahmad Faraz from Pakistan was invited to the Mushaira. Since then, every year two famous poets of Pakistan and India are invited to the Mushaira. Almost all the famous poets of the current era have participated in the Mushaira i.e Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Habib Jalib, Ali Sardar Jafri, Parveen Shakir, Ahmad Faraz, Bashir Badar, Peerzada Qasim, Shahryar, Kaifi Azmi etc.
This package takes a look at the history of the mushaira and has an interview with Dr. Abdullah.
