It's because of the MIDI synthesizers that the computers use. Ofcourse all of microsoft's synths suck deformed cocks. Yamaha XG FTW! ^^

And the best way to record these MIDIs is if you actually have an older computer with actual FM Synthesis on the sound card, or you have a soundcard in your computer that has FM Synthesis (like the ALS4000).

On my system (Windows XP, so newer than the one for this video), the FM synth version sounds just like the Mega Drive one. I wonder why the Sonic 3 ending, Carnival Night, Icecap, and Launch Base musics were completely replaced?
