However, you may as well download it to start using the interface, since that's how things are going to be from now on, and it allows for a much more streamlined workflow once you get used to it.

2.5 is great for a lot of things, and the new smoke simulations are beautiful, dare I say even on par with some of the things Houdini can crank out. But many things aren't there yet, like a knife tool, and as far as i can tell particle systems can't use instanced objects yet. There are lots of things like that not included yet.

How do you play back and save the animation because I would like to do so, but I don't know how.

Blender 2.5 can be downloaded from Graphicall . org.
That's where the builds are being posted. Keep in mind that (as of right now) it's still in alpha - although very stable and more powerful than 2.49.
It really comes down to whether you want more time with the classic interface or if you want the new interface immediately.
Personally, I like the new UI. It's much more similar to that of Lightwave 3D now.

i hate the new GUI, well for now, I cant find the fluid button either, need to spend more time on it
