Springfieldarsenal.com test-fires the Spanish Light Mountain Howitzer, ca 1790, with canister ammunition. Target effects are noted. Springfield is attempting to locate original documentation which contains the original Spanish model designation for this model of mountain howitzer. This is a "War of 1812" period weapon. Warning: FFFG black powder is not intended for use in cannons as it can develop excessive pressures. We used it under carefully controlled conditions to attempt to obtain more complete burning of the powder in the short-barrelled weapon.
