Abby Martin of Media Roots went out to cover the immediate aftermath of the brutal police raid of Occupy Oakland at 6:20 am on October 25, 2011.

500+ Oakland PD used tear gas, rubber bullets and completely leveled two encampments of peaceful protestors practicing civil disobedience. 90+ protestors were then arrested.

Whatever happened in Oakland, California this morning wasn't pretty. A reporter on location was tipped off by a city official that at 4:30am (pst) the police were going to show up to clean up the park filled with protestors. A raid. At that time, the mainstream media outlets were already on stand by ready to capture the footage. The police didn't have the right to kick anyone out especially during hours in which the park is open to the public, but knowingly, they still went through with their orders. One officer was asked by a bystander if he feels good about what he's doing and if he's going to tell his grandchildren about these times. The officer replied with, "I'm just following orders." Yeah, so were the guys at the Nuremberg trials...

Police departments from municipalities surrounding Oakland along with the OPD took to the streets to "evict" those occupying Frank Ogawa Plaza and Snow Park. Police departments from neighboring counties/municipalities such as Hayward, Fremont, Emeryville, Union City, Berkeley, and Vacaville were also called in to assist. And yes... Special response vehicles and riot gear were in tact. According to the Occupy Oakland twitter feed, there was some miscommunication amongst officers which resulted in them tear-gassing each other. Other reports (mass media) say that the protesters were the ones who released the tear gas which at one point resulted in officers gasping for air. I'm not buying that report. I am however sold on the idea that we are closer and closer to Obama proclaiming Martial Law.

  • OWS is a joke. They are hypocrites. They claim they are peaceful, yet they have committed a laundry list of crimes. They are a misguided, mob, they're instigators, and they are Lawbreakers. Not to mention they inconvenience the lives of average Americans, who are trying to make a living. I say gas em, then bring out the rubber and start slinging it at these degenerate rabble rousers.

  • @CaptainBill22 I agree. Gas the OWS mob

  • @CaptainBill22 what are you talking about retard?

  • The carnival is in town

  • Cops are cowards.

  • Yeah, we haven't seen ANY misconduct by OWS have we? You guys make me want to throw up.

  • @Kensou5 Not likely to happen. I follow the law unlike the majority of left-wingers.

  • Fuck those right wing faggots jerking the police off. I hope all you fucks rooting for the police get fucked by a whole group of them.
