More at http://www.theuptake.org. Protesters were prevented from marching on the Xcel Energy Center on the evening of John McCain's Republican Nomination acceptance speech by a growing mass of police in St. Paul, Minnesota today. The Uptake's Corrine McDermid was there on the ground documenting the tension, the frustration, and the spirit of those protesters.

  • My boss was at the convention as a delegate and those "peaceful" protesters broke out some of the windows on his bus with rocks.

  • Be careful about painting people with a broad brush. If you lump all of the demonstrators together, you can use the same logic to say all American Military Members are torturers. Both statements are incorrect.

  • @BenWeave

That's what he gets for being a fascist fuck and supporting the murder of countless Iraqis by attending the RNC.

  • Catalonia during the Spanish Civil War, Ukraine during the Russian Revolution (they fought back both the white and red armies for several years). During the Italian factory occupations anarchists were prevalent, as with the Paris Commune.

  • meria, we live in a Republic not a direct democracy. To keep crazy people like you from leading us to our death. America can't vote to end the war, Kerry would not have ended it. Our elected politicians decided to stay in the war to avoid creating a power vacuum in Iraq. Read up on international politics for the past 1000 years.

  • "does not create chaos, history has shown this."

    An example? Out of curiosity.

  • Well no urine was thrown, if you watch the press release they say it was mostly dirty dishwater they were using for plants ect. A society without a state and without capitalism does not create chaos, history has shown this. No trashcans were burn't and if they were it might have been an attempt to discredit the anarchists, or an attempt by the anarchists to cause a disruption.

  • It depends whether you're talking about our current anarchy in the international arena between sovereign states or domestic anarchy. One works as a result of a system of states, the latter creates chaos. Anarchism is certainly not what those pricks in the hoodies with the anarchy symbol, burning trashcans and throwing urine, think it is.

  • It wouldn't hurt to know what Anarchism is...

  • I don't agree with everything the Republican party says. I don't always vote Republican. I go with how I feel as a citizen. As far as protesting. You don't see Republicans causing trouble at Democratic Conventions do you? Point proven. cheers
