Noel Coward wrote the song for Bea Lillie for his 1939 revue, "Set To Music". Beatrice Lillie recorded it shortly thereafter with piano accompaniment by Will Irwin. (AIE CD 006; PLATCD 118.).
Cowards own version from the 1956 recording of his Las Vegas Desert Inn revue is unparalelled. I have a good copy of the Patricia Routledge version from Cowardy Custard that I recorded off vinyl and posted on my YouTube.

i also did a Patricia Routledge style version of this, absolute show stopper. Is definitely not available on cd but if you can get hold of the vinyl of 'Cowardy Custard',
it'll be worth it. Hysterically funny! I also did Burlington Bertie, and too many others to mention!

I'm working on a revue-ish sketch show for our small town. Almost everything in it is British, and I was thinking of tackling This as well. I'm totally undecided on whether to do it Noel Coward style, or Bea style. I prefer Noel due to my voice, but I can't resist those ultra high notes Bea hits on "Ma-ARRRVelous party"
I'm also going to do Burlington Bertie, and...another I can't recall at the moment...

Great recording... very funny; wonderful vintage stuff!

Patricia Routledge did an amazing version of this in the london production of Cowardy Custard. I have it on vinyl - but unfortunately it's not on Youtube anywhere. Also sang this song on stage myself, very hard to learn, but a show stopper!
