I'm no fan of Mehta or his Wagner (his RING in Munich was ghastly) but I'll take it any day over that godawful Karajan (yes, I've seen his early Vienna RING) with its soap-opera approach, all as pretty as having honey poured into your ears. His a disaster from every level.

Great projected images to represent the clouds, but I don't understand Zubin Mehta: he clearly slows some pieces like the Rheinemaidens and Alberich part and the Magic Fire Music, making them almost boring, and makes this beautiful Donner aria so fast that it loses some of its brilliancy. That's why I still adore Karajan.
