Summer Dreams: The Story of the Beach Boys

Another set of scenes from the movie Summer Dreams: The Story of the Beach Boys. In these scenes, we see how the manager of the Beach Boys , Murry Wilson, who is also the father of Carl, Dennis, and Brian Wilson, insults and degrades the eldest son Brian. The verbal harassment that Brian endured from his father, forced him to move out of the house, and later fire his father during an altercation in the music studio in 1965. Murry Wilson dies in 1973, with neither Brian or Dennis attending the funeral. The abuse that Dennis and Brian Wilson endured during their years of popularity, is said by some to have been one of the catalysts for Brian's mental breakdown and substance abuse later in his career, as well as Dennis' alcohol abuse.

It is a shame that abuse amongst males is still largely ignored. They make all kinds of documentaries about women and there problems, yet this is the only thing I have seen about an abusive father towards his sons. Males are more likely to be abused then women, but it is seldomly reported or taken seriously in males, and women wonder why we keep our feelings to outselves, sometimes it takes seeing the ugliness to prove a point, while I know it is a movie, I am sure it wasn't all made up.

I tend to agree with 'the some' .. that crap from Murry would be enough to drive anyone to the wall .. thank god that Brian managed to pull thru his personal hell. A great pity that poor Dennis wasn't able to beat his demons ...
